Mission Statement
The mission of the Jersey City Public Schools' Special Education Department is to improve the quality of life for students with disabilities and their families by providing comprehensive expertise, education, support, and tools for students with special needs.

What We Do
Our Child Study Team (CST) is committed to supporting every learner by identifying and addressing individual student needs. The CST plays a vital role in helping students reach their full potential through a variety of services, including:

• ✅ Conducting Evaluations: Assessing students (when warranted) to identify disabilities and determine eligibility for special education services

• 📄 Developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): Creating tailored education plans that support each student's unique learning needs

• 📚 Ensuring the Least Restrictive Environment: Placing students in learning settings that provide the greatest opportunity for success

• 🤝 Collaborating with Teachers & Staff: Partnering with educators to support instructional and behavioral strategies

• 👨‍👩‍👧 Engaging Parents & Guardians: Working alongside families to ensure student progress and success

• 💬 Providing Related Services: Delivering services such as counseling, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy as outlined in student IEPs

Our team works closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to foster a supportive and inclusive educational environment.
